Aleyris Martinez Memorial Scholarship Fund
Aleyris Martinez Memorial Fund
The Aleyris Martinez Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Aleyris Martinez who, in January 2009, was tragically killed when her snow tube hit a tree at Rotella Golf Course in Haverstraw. Aleyris was just 13 years old. Each year a $1,000.00 scholarship will be awarded to each of up to two promising female Hispanic high school seniors who are residents of the Village of Haverstraw, to assist with costs in attending the college of their choice.
To be considered for the Scholarship applicants may be attending any public, private or parochial school within Rockland County, but must reside in the Village of Haverstraw. Well-rounded high school seniors who demonstrate a significant commitment of volunteer service to our community are encouraged to apply.
Awarding of the Aleyris Martinez Memorial Scholarship is contingent on several criteria including acceptance to and enrollment in a two- or four-year college, and a complete application. Additionally, applicants are required to submit an essay demonstrating their passion to create a better world. Scholarship recipients are expected to use their resources wisely, and uphold a high standard of conduct. The Aleyris Martinez Memorial Scholarship award is an outright grant. Although recipients are under no obligation to make repayment, it is hoped that once graduated and engaged in a productive career they will help honor the memory of Aleyris by giving future students a similar financial opportunity.

The Arts Council of Rockland (ACOR) and the Rockland Community Foundation have established an ARTIST’S SUPPORT FUND to provide grants directly to practicing Rockland County artists in need of funds to support their on-going work. Grants will be dispersed twice a year to artists selected through a review process.

The Auerbach/Goldberg Memorial Scholarship was established to foster a spirit of respect, tolerance and compassion in response to lessons learned from the Holocaust. It recognizes and supports Rockland County youth dedicated to pursuing higher education studies. Each year a scholarship will be awarded to one or more promising Rockland County high school seniors to assist with costs in attending a college of their choice. To be considered for an Auerbach/Goldberg Memorial Scholarship, applicants must be residents of Rockland County and attend a public, private or parochial school within Rockland County. Well-rounded high school seniors that demonstrate a significant commitment to volunteer service or to the fostering of tolerance in our community are particularly encouraged to apply.
The Auerbach/Goldberg Memorial fund will grant $1000.00 to each of one or more graduating seniors; final number of recipients is dependent upon the applicant pool. Awarded applicants will be required to furnish proof of enrollment in an accredited college or university. The Auerbach/Goldberg Memorial Scholarship award is an outright grant. Although recipients are under no obligation to make repayment, it is hoped that once graduated and engaged in a productive career they will help sustain the spirit of the fund to give future students a similar financial opportunity.

Chazen Spirit of Rockland Scholarship Fund
Chazen Spirit of Rockland Scholarship Fund
The Chazen Spirit of Rockland Scholarship recognizes and supports Rockland County youth dedicated to pursuing higher education studies. Each year a scholarship will be awarded to a promising Rockland County high school senior in need of financial aid, to assist with costs in attending a college of his or her choice. To be considered for The Chazen Spirit of Rockland Scholarship, applicants must be residents of Rockland County and attend a public, private or parochial school within Rockland County. Well rounded high school seniors who demonstrate a significant commitment of volunteer service to our community are encouraged to apply.
The Chazen Spirit of Rockland Scholarship is granted in four annual installments of $1000 per year. Scholarships are renewable for up to four years for qualifying recipients enrolled without interruption in a college of their choice for a total grant not to exceed $4,000.00. Awards are granted for a specific period of study and are not carried over if unused.
Renewal of the The Chazen Spirit of Rockland Scholarship is contingent upon several criteria including: continued enrollment in a four year college and meeting reporting requirements, proof of satisfactory achievement, continued financial need and the availability of Foundation funds. Scholarship recipients are expected to use their resources wisely, uphold a high standard of conduct and study and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. Each scholarship recipient must submit to the Rockland Community Foundation annual reports for each academic term along with proof of enrollment verified by an official transcript of the courses taken and grades received in each academic term. Installments of the award will be made after receipt of required reporting materials. Funds are generally released in September.

Each year a $1,000.00 scholarship will be awarded to a promising Rockland County high school senior, to assist with costs in attending a college of his or her choice.
To be considered for The Christine Gallagher Scholarship applicants must be residents of Rockland County and attend a public, private or parochial school within Rockland County. Well-rounded high school seniors who demonstrate a significant commitment of volunteer service to our community are encouraged to apply.

Mr. Venel Edouard was a beloved member of Spring Valley High School’s security force for two decades, and Head Coach for Junior Varsity Soccer for twelve years. He was highly respected and adored by students and staff members and worked tirelessly to safeguard the school community. He was the quiet face of safety and support who greeted you. “Coach Venel” had great enthusiasm for coaching, was a devoted mentor to student-athletes, and dreamed of becoming a Varsity Head Coach. He was a kind and comforting father figure who brought students from all neighborhoods together.

Marisa Rose Verbraak was a graduate of the class of 2018 and passed away in 2019. . This scholarship honors her memory. She was a member of the English Honors Society throughout high school and was an avid reader, writer and old soul, whom had been an English major during her time at college. The ML by Maria Luisa Scholarship recognizes Rockland County high school female seniors who, through their actions or beliefs, embrace the principals of ML by Maria Luisa: civic and community involvement, commitment to social justice, social equality, and environment/eco-friendly lifestyles. This year, two $1000.00 scholarships will be awarded: one to a promising woman who is a senior attending a private or public Rockland County high school (must be a Rockland County resident), and one to a promising woman who is a senior attending Nyack High School, to assist with costs in attending a college of their choice. Candidates who identify as women will be considered regardless of sex assigned at birth. Well-rounded students who demonstrate a significant commitment of volunteer service to our community are encouraged to apply.

Peggy O’Gorman was a student who made a difference for so many in the Nyack High School Class of 1982. Her leadership and service were often at the heart of what made the Class of 1982 special and distinct; her boundless sense of hope and infectious sense of optimism spread throughout Nyack High School and well beyond the campus. As Vice President of our Class, Peggy O’Gorman’s sense of spirit was evident in all that we did, whether it was the founding of the Nyack Senior Citizen Thanksgiving Dinner, the renovation of the McCallman Field press box and bleachers, or making our Senior Prom affordable to everyone in the Class of 1982. We could not have achieved what we did were it not for Peggy’s leadership, friendship and love of her classmates.

The Toni and Ed Fallon Jazz Scholarship, created to honor the memory of Bill Evans, recognizes Rockland County high school seniors who have demonstrated a passion for Jazz music. Up to two $1,000.00 scholarships will be awarded annually to promising graduates to help with formal jazz studies.
Awarding of the Toni and Ed Fallon Jazz Scholarship is contingent on several criteria, including acceptance to and enrollment in a formal jazz program at a four-year college. Additionally, applicants are required to include with their application a videoed performance of a jazz piece, for review by our scholarship committee. Up to five selected finalists will be required to perform their piece as a live audition.
