The Fund for East Ramapo Public School Students is not yet accepting donations. Individuals wishing to donate are asked to consider direct contributions to the NAACP, NYCLU, RCF, or any of the fund’s grantees. Current grantees include the Martin Luther King Multi-Purpose Center. The Fund for East Ramapo’s Public School Students, established by Latham and Watkins, has awarded the following grants to the East Ramapo community.
Wonder Girls
Wonder Girls was awarded a $15,000 grant to provide programming in the form of leadership, business skills, social responsibility, confidence building and wellness to female students at East Ramapo High School. The program’s goal is to produce empowered, college/career ready young women who are confident in themselves, their education and are prepared for the business world.
CANDLEThe Community Awareness Network for a Drug-Free Life and Environment (CANDLE) was awarded a $20,000 grant to support two programs in the East Ramapo school district that recently/unexpectedly lost funding. The program provides extra psycho-social support, peer refusal and pro-social skills for youth, as a mechanism of reducing risk for drug and alcohol abuse.
Martin Luther King Multi Purpose CenterThe Martin Luther King Multi Purpose Center was awarded a $33,000 grant that will help support the Saturday’s At The Center program which began in November 2022. Saturday’s At The Center is a free educational support program offering ELA & Math reinforcement for East Ramapo School district students currently enrolled in the 4th, 5th and 6th grades.
New York Civil Liberties UnionThe New York Civil Liberties Union’s (NYCLU) youth program in Spring Valley was awarded a $20,000 grant to provide public high school students in the East Ramapo Central School District with the resources and tools to effectively organize initiatives around civil rights and civil liberties in their schools and communities. This grant was for students from both Ramapo High School and Spring Valley High School, many of whom are students of color and English Language Learners.
